Beach Safety

Walton County’s 26 miles of beautiful sugar-white sand and turquoise water are something we take deep pride in protecting, along with our visitors. As you explore and enjoy, please remember:

Leave No Trace

Come and enjoy the beach and water. When you’re ready to leave, please make sure you pick up all trash and toys, and fill in any holes. Trash can end up in the water, harming marine animals, and holes endanger humans and sea turtles.

Respect the Flags

All our beaches use a colored flag system to indicate the condition of the water. Learn more at BeachSafety.com or text “FLAG” or “SAFETY” to 31279 to sign up for Beach Safety text message alerts during your visit. Be sure to note that double red flags mean the water is closed for your safety.

BEACH FLAG WARNINGS

*Entering the Gulf during double red flag conditions can result in a $500 fine and criminal charges. Absence of flags does not assure safe waters. Swim at your own risk.

Love Our Sea Turtles

May through October is turtle nesting season. During this time, it is imperative that we avoid bright lights on the beach at night (red only) and never disturb a turtle nest (marked or unmarked). Learn more at VisitSouthWalton.com/sea-turtles and help protect these amazing animals.

With your support, we can ensure Walton County’s beaches are pristine and beautiful for generations to come. Want to help us keep our beachgoers safe?
